We Eat Cheap
I often pop into Save-a-Lot on Sunday evenings to see if I can score any end of weekend meat markdowns. There was only a pork shoulder butt roast, which I decided to buy since it was a special price of $1.99 per pound. To round things out, I grabbed a bag of slaw, some over-ripe bananas, and a big sweet potato. That, along with the ends of a carton of blueberries, was my weekly batch of Frankie food. Just $15.56 wasn't bad.
Since I was already across the street from Tops, I decided to see if they had any Ff deals, as I hadn't settled on a definite dinner plan. I decided to buy a thin steak and a tray of lasagna. My plan was to have the steak tonight and the lasagna tomorrow. Frankie and I will be out visiting her brother in the afternoon, so I won't have time to make a scratch dinner. The lasagna will solve that problem, and it was cheap!
Dinner for us was a loaded baked potato. We each had half. I made it in the air fryer. I scooped out the potato once it was baked, and mixed it with cheese, steak, and some bacon, then put it back in to crisp up some more. The fruit was a Price Rite markdown from yesterday. We also had one tray of sushi from yesterday's order, which we finished. This was an unusual meal, but it helped me use up a lone potato we had on hand.
The big bowl is the batch of Frankie food I just finished making. The bone really wasn't that big. It did take some effort to cut up five and a half pounds of pork once it was cooked, but for me it's a labor of love. The bone and liquid from the pot are now simmering and will be made into barley and oats tomorrow. I started cutting up and mixing this batch around 12:30 AM, which got my girl out of bed. She helped me clean up and then went back upstairs to snuggle with her daddy. I sure would like to take the easy way out and buy her food, but this is better for her. We eat cheap, and she eats cheap!
I loved loaded baked potatoes and hadn’t thought to make one in the air fryer. I need to try that soon. You do eat inexpensively. I love reading about all your bargains.

You get some marvelous FF deals. I am sorry that you have so much shoulder pain that it keeps you awake at times.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I feel your shoulder pain. Mine is bone on bone from an old rollover car accident.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had more nearby grocery competition to get better deals. :(
