A Post about a Post!

I am just going to lead with the most exciting thing from today. We put up my latest garden post! I think it looks great. While the blueberry bush kind of hides the finial, I like it just where it is. There are some hard spots in the ground so I can't always implant something exactly where I want it, but this is just a few inches from the location I originally wanted.  It does seem to balance out the other posts nicely too. Do you like it? Unfortunately, I forgot to put the flag out today, so it's missing in the picture.

It was a pool day, and I got behind schedule. Luckily a dress and flip-flops are always easy and appropriate when it comes to picking an ensemble to wear swimming. Nothing fancy or well thought out -- it just got the job done!

One thing I had to do, was call the vet this morning and ask them to schedule an appointment for us, but without an office visit/technician charge. I wasn't sure how that would go but figured it was worth asking. They forgot to give Frankie two vaccinations we requested when she was in for her spay, and she must have them to get into any daycare. I had only mentioned/asked for the vaccines three times prior to her surgery. Turns out they felt badly, and we are getting a $50 credit, I think on top of no tech charge either. In any event, that works for me. As for my girl, she is 110% back to normal. Spaying has not calmed her down a single bit -- in fact, she seems to want to make up for two weeks of relative inactivity. Like bonkers!

I also had to make soup this morning, because I wanted to serve it cold tonight. This is a gazpacho-like concoction, using up some veggies, tofu, shrimp, stock, plus a small can of diced tomatoes. I topped it with homemade croutons, bacon, and shredded parm. We each enjoyed a bowl with BLT sandwiches on my sourdough bread. This was a great meal to enjoy outside. It was much cooler this evening -- which I don't think will last. Tomorrow is supposed to be blazing hot again.

I put in a Flashfood order today because there was a great deal on eggs. The tabouli was an add-on because it was a good price and a nice convenience for us. Price Rite is on the way, so I popped in for things I thought we'd use. While I am always hoping to find marked down salmon, there was none today. It's been on sale at a decent price, so it's been moving fast. However, I did find a discounted tray of cod. There was bacon on sale -- at the same price that Tops has it on sale. The difference is that Tops really marks it up prior to the sale. Then they only let you buy one. The rest are at a higher "sale" price. That "sale" price is the same as Price Rite's regular price. That's why I always confirm the retail price when I place a Flashfood order from Tops. I want to be sure it is legit. It pays to understand a store's pricing tendencies.

This is everything I brought home today. All but the bacon is healthy.  However, I don't stress over that because I am always sure to put bacon into a dish that has lots of nutrition. And while it seems I am constantly buying food, most of it is consumed that week, or becomes stock in our freezer as a guard against inflation and supply chain issues. And it's hard to beat free-range organic eggs for less than four bucks!

  1. I did the menu plan for the coming week (probably longer with leftovers), and picked up my grocery order today. We don't have competition for groceries here, unless I feel like driving to the city, but I usually figure the gasoline and time spent negate any savings. Locally we have only HEB and Wal*Mart, and I find Wal*Mart's produce and meats yucky.

Glad Frankie is in top form again! :)
