Dog on Drugs
Frankie's spay went really well. We were told she was a very good girl. By 3PM, they were ready for her to come home. They put on the blue inflatable collar I'd brought for her. Tomorrow I will switch to her foam cone. She has been out of it all day. I spoon fed her some liquified food mixed with some hot water -- about 2 tablespoons. You know she's drugged when there is no real interest in food!
This was her yesterday, trying to run and rub the effects of her bath away. She got a good shampoo and a trim, plus I have been attending to her teeth. I also did some clipping and shaving so she wouldn't have a strange vet cut. They trimmed her nails and cleaned her hears as part of the service. Aside from being quite sedated still, she is looking well. My guess is she will be back to her perky and busy self tomorrow -- and we have some meds to keep her from moving around too much. The sutures are dissolvable, so she doesn't have to go back.
Sunday was the kind of domestic day I am glad to be able to have. When I was first discussing retiring Frankie from the show ring, one person wondered what on earth I would do instead. It's this. Hang my clothes to dry. Bake loaves of sour dough bread. This is a fine way to spend a day, if you ask me!
The picture on the left was Sunday dinner. Tonight is on the right. The goal on Sunday, was to use up stuff in the fridge. So I made a bean-based soup/stew/chili using pinto and lupini beans, marinara, hamburger, diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, and onion. One thing I have been doing, is making a veggie soup base by sautéing a mire poi, then adding extra water and oil to it. It then gets liquified in the immersion blender. This makes for a nice rich base and thickens my pot too. The pizza on the side was a piece of Naan bread and the rest of a container of grape tomatoes and mozzarella pearls (from our party).
Tonight's pizza was Flashfood gourmet pizza dough (made with superfine flour), topped with FF mozzarella, herbs from the garden, plum tomatoes, and anchovies. We had a side salad using veggies on hand.
A set of freshwater pearls arrived this afternoon -- a necklace and earrings. The set is a graduation present for a friend's daughter. The necklace is 18" and the clasp and posts are sterling silver. The sale price was $26, which I thought was a good deal and an appropriate piece for a young lady. The pearls aren't very big, which makes them better, I think, for a young lady. This is something I buy on-line, because shopping IRL takes time and is generally more expensive. I will find a nicer package/presentation.
My Samsung Galaxy tablet, which I use for reading e-books from the library, died. Walmart deals start tomorrow, but I did find a Flash Sale which was a good price. It wasn't an expense I expected, but I also only spent $120 -- and I use my e-reader a lot. They are cheaper than when I first started reading with them, and they have gotten bigger. My choice was an older model which is smaller, because I like to be able to fit mine in a handbag or backpack. Mostly, I read in bed. But I never travel without it either!
Frankie thanks all for the well wishes. It's bittersweet for me to spay her and end her show career, but we could pick it back up once she is 7 and eligible for the Veteran class. We have three years to decide, and she will have fun regardless. Thank you for thinking of her!
