Cooking, Creating, and Cheaping Out!

We may not have a tour worthy or agriculturally productive garden, but we do have little victories. Like our first three tomatoes that we were able to pick. The first ripe one was lost to a squirrel, so I was quick to get these inside as soon as they were even in the zone of ripeness. I had plans!

After I harvested tomatoes, I spent time on my garden post project. Using spray paint was a less-than-ideal method -- but I gave it a try because Home Depot didn't have all of the colors I needed. I had a lot of manual touching up to do. But the post is painted and clear coated. We will put the stake and finial on tomorrow. It will be seen from a distance, so the imperfections shouldn't be too noticeable.

Frankie and I passed a garage sale while out on our walk yesterday. Once we got home, I went back (it was around the corner, so not too far) and spent seven dollars on sewing patterns, needles, rotary cutters (Fiskars) and a braiding tool. There are hand sewing, embroidery, upholstery, and sewing machine needles. I think I did OK.

Dinner last night was London Broil on the grill with corn and potato. The meat was a Use or Freeze markdown, around $4.50. I marinated it in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, plus herbs from the garden. We had a nice Cotes du Rhone -- which I saved money on with a coupon ($15 off a $100 purchase). Only half of the meat was consumed, and we had a half of a potato. The potato will be part of breakfast tomorrow - likely a steak, egg, and potato omelet.

Dinner tonight was pizza made with strips of the beef, tomatoes from the garden, Flashfood dough, and all sorts of leftover cheese and greens, topped with a balsamic glaze (also Ff). Sounds strange, but it was good! Who needs a salad when you can put it on your pizza? This pie was under $5 to make.

Tomorrow is a pool day for me. Not much will be going on. I'll be posting again most likely on Wednesday. I hope everyone is staying cool!
