I Scream for Ice Cream
We love dessert. And we really like premium ice cream. Here's two scoops of a Baklava inspired frozen yogurt treat I made last week.
The base was honey Greek yogurt with a couple of ounces of half and half. I added a little vanilla-sugar syrup, honey, sesame seed oil, and a few extra squeezes of lemon. The mix in was a combination of pecans that were browned in a skillet, using sesame seed oil. At the end, I added actual sesame seed. I then tossed the mixture with a little more oil.
This wasn't a super chunky batch. In the future, I will leave the pecans whole so they will end up as bigger chunks.
I gifted us the ice cream machine for Christmas. It came with four pint containers, but I also ordered two more. While this might seem expensive, it was a good price. Since we like premium ice cream, which runs around six bucks per pint, making our own will save in the end. And homemade has fewer to no artificial additives.
As for ingredients, I try to buy good deals. The yogurt was half-priced at $2.50. The half and half was the end of a carton in the fridge. If I have any dairy product that might age-out, I make an ice cream base out of it.
Do you scream for ice cream?
I'm the fresky person who hates ice cream but Greek yoghurt, honey and nuts...yes, please! Half and half? Is that what we call semi-skimmed milk? xxx
ReplyDeleteIn the US, half and half is a type of creamer for coffee, etc. It is a blend of milk and cream. Tommy wasn't hugely fond of the frozen yogurt because it was also tart, but I liked it just fine!
