Most of what I wore came to me second hand, with two dog-related exceptions. My plaid bottom is a skort, and I bought it on-line from Walmart. It was a functional piece that I needed in the show ring. Shows in the summer are very hot, so wearing stockings/hose won't cut it. To avoid thigh chafing and showing any hint of my undies, skorts are the most sensible thing to wear. I have this pair, and two white ones (purchased later on clearance). The white ones are mostly for indoor shows, since muddy paws can be an issue. Having a slightly older and more experienced girl, these days I could get away with white in the ring outside on a dry day. But on a rainy day... no way!
I dressed up because I was a lunching lady today and went out with a friend. The top is one piece that has the second layer sewn in. It's a little big, but I like it anyway. The wool coat was a garage sale find -- Pendleton wool for five bucks. Frankie's sweater was a cheap Walmart clearance find for a few bucks. She wore it on our walk, and I still have it on her in the house. It's cold!
The thrift gods were with me today -- or maybe I was just channeling Vix because I had lamented to her that finding leather belts second hand was getting to be impossible. Well, my Senior Citizens discount outing to Goodwill not only produced six belts (four leather), but there was a belt/tie hanger too. And... also a vintage fedora! That was like getting a spiritual message from the Vintage Vixen herself!!! One thing I was looking for, was a tissue box solution for my bedroom. While I was on the lookout to find something to repurpose, I came across an actual tissue holder -- that matches my yellow bedroom. The crystal votive holders were on my wish-list and a set of four was real deal. They were $2.99 for all four, but it was a half-price day for those tags. My spend was $21. The Senior discount helped.
The hat was just $3.99, before my 20% discount. It is genuine 1960's vintage. Boy was I lucky to find it! The votive holders look great in an old candelabra that I normally put tapers in. But now I have the option to use votives. Dollar tree sells these for $1.25 a piece. I got all four for the same price -- which is why I love thrift shopping!
So, my day was pretty awesome. I had a lovely lunch with a good friend (who passed on a swell Mackenzie Childs bathmat to me), a nice & fashionable walk with my dog, and some quality thrift shopping. Life is Good!
Good morning and thanks for the shout out! My eye went straight to that hat - wow! what a beauty! Those belts look good, too.
ReplyDeleteThat coat is fabulous on you. Pendleton! Even us Brits know that label.
What a great day you had, life is sweet! xxx
It 's nice to have Google Lense to look these things up too. That's how I confirmed it was from the 1960's. I am having good luck with hats, since I have two that go well with that coat. You're my thrift store Spirit Guide!
DeleteIt sounds like a wonderful day! The Pendleton wool coat is beautiful. We find them every now and then second hand and they are always such wonderful quality,
ReplyDeleteThank you Belinda! One of the best things about finding that coat, was it was clean. It still had the dry-cleaning tags. So, it didn't smell off, and I didn't have to pay to have it cleaned. A real bonus!
