Monday: Dressed, Shopped, & Cooked

Of course, the first job of the day was to get dressed! Temperatures were up around 30f, but the winds are in the 40mph range.  My hunting pants are not thrifted, but they were found at Ollies, where this kind of thing is half the price of what I'd find in a full retail outlet. Cheaper than Walmart too.  The brown teddy jacket was a four-dollar Kohl's find three years ago -- who knew this fuzzy piece of outerwear would come into fashion, but this style of coat is popular now.  Frankie is wearing a Christmas gift from two years ago.  She never really grew into it, but it where it has too much in width, it works well with length.  Plus, we coordinated nicely.

I decided it would be a mixed metal jewelry day.  Lucky me has two pairs of opal earrings, which I love to wear together. I matched their gold settings with the accents on my ring and pendant. The pearl choker was one of my DIYs.  My anniversary band was surrounded by silver bands -- the smaller of which also has moissanite stones.

Today's 99 cent clearance color was green, but there was 50% off on blue.  The Johnson Brother's teapot was a buck, and not having a lid was find by me.  I've wanted to find pieces to hold tissues, and picked up these two for a dollar each.

The clear container works great in our living room. It is positioned away from the couch because a certain little orange and white troublemaker likes to empty tissue cartons and decorate the house.  The form is plain enough to work with the cigar box (holding nail files and manicure stuff) and also go with the funky lamp.  I am color-blind, so I used a phone app to identify three colors in the lamp and used them to paint our three rooms downstairs.

As for clothes, I go in looking for pieces to find for my bestie's daughter. She lives on a tight budget, and I want her to have decent clothes for work. I use the 99 cent tags to affordably stock her closet.  There are three pieces for her (I layered two for this picture).  While I was there, though, I picked up a flannel shirt for me.  This is going to be a little large but will layer over my cashmere sweaters nicely.

Most of the meat I feed my girl comes from Save-a-Lot.  I wanted something to go with the large batch of liver from this weekend. There were no marked down trays, but the family size offerings did the trick. $1.99 per pound is my sweet spot. I took no time at all to cut these pieces into bite-sized chunks.  The chunks were tossed with calcium powder, vacuum sealed, and cooked in the oven using the air souse-vide at 165f for three hours.  I can freeze them for now. When we need more food for Frankie, I will thaw these packages and mix with one of the packages of liver.  That should be enough food for a week.

Our dinner was Norwegian salmon with carrots, made in the air fryer.  The glaze is homemade using oranges and grapefruit.  Carrots are coated with the citrus jelly and some honey.  For a small bit of salad, romaine with orange chunks and onion, dressed with raspberry vinaigrette.  We both failed to finish our whole plates, so The Big Guy has some for lunch tomorrow. Extra rice was mixed in with Frankie's food in the fridge.

Every day is an adventure in savings in my domestic world!

  1. I know I have one of those clear square glass containers. I use it for flowers infrequently, but I LOVE the tissue idea to use it more regularly! Now I just have to find it! LOL

Returning your visit and comment, and am so glad to find you back! kathleen

    1. I didn't know what I would find that would be suitable. Hadn't even thought of something like this, but for 99 cents, it was worth it! I like that it is very heavy too. I hope you find yours too!

  2. You are an inventive lady! I rarely use tissues but what a great idea!
I blame Lockdown for making fleeces and Crocs fashionable. I love how yours matches Frankie! xxx

    1. Well, thank you! We do use tissues. Probably more of an American thing. But one of us always has some sort of stuffiness. Frankie just likes them for the amusement value!

We have various pieces of outerwear for her and lately, it's been cold enough where I think she actually needs the warmth.
