Blue Thursday
Today was a blue day -- aesthetically, not emotionally. I have been wanting to wear this Banana Republic 99 cent cardigan for the past month! There was also plenty of jewelry in the blue colorway I had been neglecting. The necklace was an anniversary present from my Tommy (made of paper!), and the vest was a Christmas present from him two years ago. Its main purpose is in the pockets. It's perfect for dog outings. In fact, there is no need for a purse -- everything I need fits in them.
I wear lots of "alternative" wedding jewelry. For today, the stone was a blue spinel. Lab created, which has a set of earrings to match with the same setting. My second piercings sported cubic zirconia French wires. On my wrists, and ultra fine silver byzantine bracelet and a triple heart slide with white sapphires. Those are a great lab-grown clear stone option which sparkle like diamonds.
The bracelet was given to me by a friend because it was too small for her. It was, however, too big for me. That's an easy to solve problem. I put a magnetic clasp on, which not only created a tighter fit, but it also works great as a safety clasp. My fitness watch is just so ugly. My only way of coping is to pick a low-tech looking watch face. This is the one I have chosen.
Not only do I divulge my jewelry secrets, but I'll also share my house hacks too! Our house is very small, and I own a lot of shoes and boots. I have an overflow rack in my attic. It really isn't too hard to pull down the trap door and climb up to grab a pair. One of my indulgences, is having fresh towels. But washing daily is a bit of a waste. So, I gather them up and give them a run through the clothes dryer. They get washed every third day.
While I have been conscientiously consuming from our chest freezer, I've filled it back up. Price Rite had a great price on chicken, and I am afraid of rising prices as bird flu cases increase. I have no faith our government will deal with the problem well. Boneless skinless breast was $1.99 pp, and chicken thighs $1.49. This stash should get us through six months. I will stretch it by using it as an ingredient, and not a main element. Tonight, I made a teriyaki stir-fry. The tofu was half price, and I had plenty of veggies. We had dinner, plus and equal amount to freeze for a meal next week.
Chicken, tofu, pepper, onion, carrot, celery, onion, edamame, and rice.
Frankie and I fit in a nice walk in the cemetery. She was weaving, sniffing and prancing. I managed not to slip. It's nice when we can both get what we need done. Back at home, she messed up our bed, while I mopped and vacuumed upstairs, and did two loads of laundry. It's a dog life in our house!
Very smart outfit! Both in appearance and practical definitions of the word smart. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much kath! I live to be smart and practical ;-)
DeleteLook at all that snow!
ReplyDeleteI like those bold stripes! I'm not very au fait with gemstones but that blue spinel is very pretty and that magnetic trick is clever.
Funnily enough we had an impromptu stir fry for tea tonight. We popped into the supermarket to buy a bottle of rum and couldn't resist a pack of fresh stir-fry veg yellow-stickered down to 49p - it was delicious. xx
Thank you! And as for snow, this is a lot less than our normal. This is after a decent amount of melt!
DeleteThe tofu was one of those buys where the app on my phone sells you stuff half off. I knew it would add the flavor I needed. While I wouldn't buy it at full price, I will grab it again at half off if it's offered. The store that participated in the app here sells a lot of over-ripe veggies, so I am careful what I buy. But if I see any good looking marked down produce in the store, I can't resist either!
