Change of Plans!
I picked this athleisure ensemble because it was a pool day. Once I got to the aquatic center, I learned it had just closed due to *another* roofing mishap. They've been putting a new roof on for months. They closed the place down because electric lines were cut about a month ago. Rather than skipping my swim, I grabbed the pup and headed to the river. It's exercise of a totally different variety. I give Frankie credit because she is a little girl, so waves at one foot are more work for her than they were for my big Golden Retriever. But we got good exercise, some sun, and we ran into someone we knew. It was a nice diversion.
I started my day with an odds and ends breakfast. We had greens, beef, bacon, and cheese in the fridge and the marked-down eggs from earlier in the week. I made an omelet and put it on my homemade bread. My coffee was reheated from the refrigerator too. This costs less than a fast food breakfast sandwich and is healthier too!
I found a great deal on peaches at Aldi. While I first just bought six jars, I went back for another six on the way home from swimming in the river. At $1.75, they are a bargain. I did a price comparison, but the $2.85 shown is a sale price. They were $3.65 each to start. $1.75 a jar is cheaper than I could preserve them on my own. Pancakes, ice cream, and over greens -- I will have plenty of ways to use them. This cache will last me through the winter!
The price of cocoa/chocolate will rise if the 50% tariffs on Brazil kick in. I ordered four containers of powdered cocoa from Walmart and had them delivered. One was opened right away and used for a batch of chocolate peanut butter ice cream I made using Flashfood light cream I bought on Tuesday. Tommy wanted some for protein shakes too. I should probably buy more soon.
I also made a Flashfood order so that I could buy myself some time. We needed sourdough bread, and the price was worth it. While these aren't big loaves, they will last through the weekend. Since I am going out of town on Sunday and won't be back until Tuesday, Tommy will have bread, and I won't have to fit in a baking session to get it done. I have seen this brand for $8.99 a loaf -- which I would never spend. $3 was acceptable. The small pound cake was dessert to serve with ice cream. Given the price of butter and bananas, it was an economical convenience buy.
The weather has been so hot that it's hard to get motivated to work outside -- but it's also perfect for hanging out laundry to dry. So, I filled up two clotheslines and got a lot of whites done!
Tomorrow Tommy and I are touring gardens. It's the big Buffalo Garden Walk event. On Sunday, I am leaving for Saratoga (New York) with my sister. While I am out there, we will visit with one of our cousins, and I am going to meet up with my college roommate. I'll be back Tuesday or Wednesday and hope to be able to quickly catch-up with the blogworld.
If you shop Aldi -- look out for those peaches!!!
So impressed that you moved on to Plan B and included Frankie in your swim! :) Have fun on your sister trip!
ReplyDeleteThere's always a work-around!
DeleteThat is a great deal on the peaches. Glad you were able to swim anyway. Your whites look so pretty on the line with your colorful clothes pins. Cocoa was expensive here before any tariffs kicked in, and I wonder how high it will actually end up being.
ReplyDeleteI will save a lot of effort in not trying to can peaches. Not only will I save on the fruit, but all the sugar involved too, lids, etc.!
DeleteHave a great trip! How nice to be able to swim with Frankie.
ReplyDeleteFrankie is going to become a better swimmer this summer. It's my plan!
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful trip. Nice to be able to swim in the river for a change.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie. I love my river swims too.
