Another Artful Thursday

We enjoyed another Thursday night gallery exhibit opening.  This time it was Steina: Playback, a show case of video artist Steina Vasulka.  The tickets to these openings are free to us as gallery members, and the beer is always good! My goal is to get back the equivalent of our yearly dues in the form of beer and wine.

While I appreciate the work, the opening wasn't the best time to really look at it.  The area set up with video displays and headphones had some pieces that were quite long, and there was no way we were going to each plop down and watch.  There were a few rooms with big screens that you could be surrounded and have a better immersive experience.

We really enjoy just being in the space (the Gundlach gallery of the Albright Knox), sipping a local brew, and appreciating the design and feeling of the space.  And of course, this American needs to point out the Canadian presence in the arts here too. Getting your name engraved on a big clear railing like this surely means you donated big bucks...

It has been a while since I went with an animal print. The shirt was not thrifted -- but it was a clearance find I only paid a couple of bucks for.  If I find new quality merchandise at thrift store prices, I'll buy it. but these days, I rarely go to retail clothing stores, so I don't buy much stuff new. I went sort of blingy with my jewelry.  The sparkling bracelet is a garage sale find. The house was a lady on my block who used to own a boutique/jewelry store. She practically gave it to me -- and I don't often have places to wear it, so I was happy to put it on today.  My glasses were also second-hand, then fit with my prescription. I had been so hard to find large aviators, so when I saw these at a garage sale, I had to have them. They were a buck.  As for my earrings, they are jet. They are also something I don't get a lot of opportunity to wear. The pendant normally lives on a large-link mixed metal chain, but I wanted to stay with the black theme.  I was hoping this looked a little fashionable, and not too orthopedic with the sneakers.

Frankie has been doing Frankie. It was finally warm enough for her to enjoy the top step outside the back door.  And of course, she messed up the bed!

I did stay up late last night, switching my slacks over to the new hangers I got at Big Lots yesterday.  There were 20 hangers, and I used every single one of them!  The thin flocked hangers really were not strong enough to handle my pants and I'd broken a few pulling them out of such a tight space.  The new ones will work much better. And now I have 20 more hangers for shirts!

I'm thinking of going back to Big Lots to buy another box or two of hangers. Is that crazy?

  1. You both look fantastic for your art exhibition. Most of our art galleries are free in the UK but I always leave a donation whenever I visit, art is so important for our well being.
Frankie's loving that sunshine, bless her!
I bet it feels good to have your wardrobe all sorted like that. I've occasionally flirted with wearing jeans I've found in charity shops but don't really feel like me in them so my wardrobe is trouserless (yoga leggings don't count!) xxx

    1. Free museums! Another thing your country does right, and we do wrong. Ours does have a free day once a month.

I don't wear jeans as much now that I am chubby but wanted to get away from constantly wearing leggings. They are not that flattering for ladies who are short-waisted. But now that I had my boobs reduced, it's a little better.

You don't need jeans or trousers, your long flowing dresses and skirts are perfect!
