Weekend Wrap-up

This was the last dish to be made with the 22oz meatloaf mix I got for $4.24 on Flashfood.  We had two dinners of spaghetti and meatballs, plus this pot of beans and rice with meat.  I had intended to make chili, but we did not have enough beans.  It was easy to make a hearty pot with rice instead.  There is enough for Tommy to have lunch tomorrow.

Dessert was peach ice cream, made from marked down half and half. That wasn't a Flashfood deal.  I needed to buy frozen veggies and decided I would look to see if there was any discounted that I could use for ice cream base.  It was a real score to find two.  I made two pints of cherry french vanilla for my friend, who texted me to say it was delicious.

With one more pint of half and half to use, I had to make more ice cream base.  Two are plain vanilla, and one is pumpkin.  The pumpkin is flavored with pudding mix which was a FF deal a month ago. I paid something like .34 cents for a package.  I also used the chocolate chip muffin top mix to make pancake batter.  I added other flours and ingredients so that it made a large batch.

I was pleased to learn that pancakes are traditionally enjoyed on Shrove Tuesday. While I am an atheist, I love a good ethnic or religious food tradition. So I am set! These are walnut chocolate chip pancakes made with a little bit of brown rice flour too.  They are delicious.

Since it was Sunday, it was time to wash the sheets in the Bee Suite.  This is the only day of the week that the bed will be nicely made. Frankie loves to mess this one up.  I will be sleeping in the nightshirt I made from old sheets.  I hope it's as comfortable as the sheets were on the bed.

I will be protesting outside of a Congresswoman's office tomorrow.  One of the things I am particularly pissed about is that she is sponsoring a bill to make Trump's birthday a national holiday.  There is so much bad stuff going on right now and that is what she's taking a stand on. It would be laughable if the firings, foreign relations implosions, inflation, and anger issues weren't so prevalent. I am driving to Canandaigua, NY to meet a friend at her friend's house. We're heading to the march together and will go out for dinner afterwards.  I do not expect Ms. Tenney will be attentive to the event, but this isn't something I can be silent on.  There's a lot going on at our house but taking time to make signs was an effort I was willing to make.  And I am a registered Republican.

Will you be affected by the tariffs going into effect on Tuesday? Or do you think the staff shortages will affect you? I really wish I didn't feel the need to do this. But at least I will have an opportunity to see a friend!

    1. Thank you Juhli! I've got my signs and a bottle of water ready to go. I am driving 1.5 hours. And there is a store with some good Flashfood deals on the way into town. Bonus!

  2. Funny thing, as Catholics we should be enjoying pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but we usually don't.
Yes I believe that the tariffs will affect most Canadians in one way or another. However we citizens up here are fighting back by trying our best not to purchase items from the U.S. It is hard when at this time of year we don't have fresh produce or fruit (other then apples and pears). However stores are now sourcing items from other countries which is wonderful. I got grapes from South Africa, asparagus from Mexico, and the oranges I purchased were from South Africa as well.
Why on earth should the orange menace's birthday be a holiday. Glad to know you are protesting the idiotic suggestion.

    God bless.

    1. isn't it strange that as an American, I encourage you to boycott our goods. And please keep booing at our National Anthem. If I am at an event where it is played, I will stay seated. I am sickened that there are now prayer invocations before event where the officiant thanks God for the man. I am so sorry our country has put this man back on the world stage.
