A Dawdling Day
While I didn't get a lot done today, I think I managed to pull together a nice ensemble. The whole outfit probably cost me less than $14. The headband is Dollar Tree (last week), the Talbots blazer ($1), Calvin Klein knit tank ($1), and D&Co jeans ($1) are from Salvation Army. The Kenneth Cole crossbody ($3) and Aigner loafers ($3) were probably Amvets purchases, and the leather Ralph Lauren belt was $2 at Goodwill. The jewelry isn't included in my cost estimate. But I did manage to dress nicely on a budget. All I did was go to the pool, drop off a donation to Amvets, and shop at Goodwill, then give Frankie a short walk around the neighborhood.
Tuesday is Senior Discount day at Goodwill. This Hull cookie jar ended up being $2.18 with my discount, but they asked if I wanted to round up. So I paid $3 for it because I didn't want to bother with the coins. Which kind of cuts into the discount. I usually only round up if the extra is less than fifty cents.
My plan is to use this as a planter/flowerpot in the back yard. I'm going to take a chance and get a ceramic drill bit and see if I can drill a drainage hole in the bottom. Have you ever done that? If it doesn't seem feasible, then I'll set a smaller herb pot in it. That way, I can water it from the bottom and dump the excess out if it rains and the pot gets overly full of water. If this piece had the top, it would've been a lot more. And I still probably would have purchased it because it would look great in our kitchen.
Tonight's dinner was all Flashfood. I baked the potatoes I bought yesterday, along with the green beans. I used half of each bag. We had three of the turkey meatballs too. There were some potatoes we didn't finish, and Tommy is bringing them to work with eggs to have for breakfast. That's an American thing. Many here in the States eat breakfasts at their desks once they get to work. This pan was likely $3 worth of food. And while we're often told not to waste our money on convenience foods like washed and packaged produce, that's all this meal is made from.
I also feel badly about using foil on my pans, but it means less soap, scrubbing, and water to clean it all up. In any event, dinner was delicious, and I think it was a healthy meal too. Tomorrow is supposed to be wet, so hopefully I can be productive inside. I hope your day ends up being sunny!
Cute outfit and cookie jar, and your supper looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kath! I had been waiting for the weather to warm up so I could wear that blazer out.
DeleteThat headband looks really good on you. A classy and stylish outfit.
ReplyDeleteI've done something similar with old ceramics, drilling drainage holes to repurpose them into planters. I do like a treacle glaze! xxx
Thanks Vix. It's a comfortable headband too. I do love the Hull pottery. Now I need to get a hold of the appropriate drill bit so that the piece doesn't crack when I put a hole in it.
DeleteYou always dress so nicely. Me, well I pull on whatever and hope that it manages to make it through the day without getting dirty. I love the pot. Pretty sure if you are careful you can make a drainage hole.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie! Once I get home, I often change into something else. That means my better pieces stay clean longer -- and I can re-wear them without washing.
