The Naked Truth
I guess it makes sense that I had an odd exchange at the check-out of the Salvation Army. My haul today was $13.85. When the clerk was ringing up the watercolor I purchased for $4.99, she told me how disgusting she found it and hadn't wanted to put it out. I guess naked art models are disgusting? I told her the piece was replacing a floral print my husband hates in our office, then noted he hates flowers but loves naked ladies.
The painting is not a reproduction or big-box mass-produced piece (like the one it replaced). It was painted by a local artist.
I also found a cotton/linen dress, a belt bag/pack, and a couple of vacuum cleaner bags. This vintage Aigner piece was $1.99 and had never been used! I will get a lot of use out of it. It will fit a phone, wallet, and poop bags. Wooo Hooo!!! And I paid $2.00 for a couple of Orek XL bags. A bag of 8 originally sold for $25. And now they are not easy to find. It was worth it to pick them up for a dollar a piece.
The store is going to "menu pricing" and will just sell things at set prices per type of item. I have noticed that their prices have been going up too. I was still shopping in spite of their discontinuing their 99 cent tags. I am guessing I will probably stop shopping from this source.
It was a good Flashfood day. I had placed my first order, wanting to have pork for making marinara. It was a plus to find the gourmet dough balls. After my purchase, I doubled back to the listing and found two more balls were added for the store. I purchased them all. The gourmet variety is made using 00 superfine flour. That's pretty expensive, so I save time and don't have to buy a pricey bag of flour. The dough can be frozen, and since I always have mozzarella on hand, pizza is an easy dinner.
Do you make sauce with pork? Would you put it on a pizza?
I think the nude is very nice. Have to admit I liked the floral print okay too. LOL
ReplyDeleteI thought the floral piece was fine too. Apparently, the Mr. detests it!
DeleteVery nice nude photo, and it looks good on the office wall. I like the one it replaced too. The belt bag will be a great bag to hold stuff and keep your hands free. I’m all about that these days. We miss those 99 cent days too. They stopped doing them here during Covid. Your pizza looks delicious, we had pizza for dinner last night too.
ReplyDeleteThe colors in the piece was the reason I bought it. We have so little wall space, that it would otherwise fit nowhere else in our house. It was a nice low-cost solution too!
DeleteI like how the new painting echoes the colors in your wall and trim. So sad the clerk couldn’t appreciate the human form -that is a lovely work.
ReplyDeleteAnd once again I forgot my name - Juhli
DeleteI hate how Blogger makes our comments anonymous. And I was a bit taken back by the actual revulsion of the clerk. Figure models are a part of studying art. Plenty of religious works show women's breasts. I think it's a pretty and well done piece!
DeleteI love finding local art, since I am not an artist myself.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I do make some of my own, but my talent is questionable... I am happier when I can find an affordable well-done piece by someone else!
DeleteI think the painting is lovely, and considering it is done by a local artist perfect.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie! I did look her up to be sure, and she's sold and exhibited at a few local galleries. So I got a great deal and a nice piece too!
