Saturday Sale-ing

I have wanted to pair this earring and necklace set with my new custom necklace for weeks and finally had a chance today.  The longer piece and matching earrings are white and rose gold.  My plan was to wear something springish but it was too cold today. I wore the set anyway! My hair is up so my earrings can be seen.

This outfit is both cheap stuff, garage sale, and thrifted.  The large scarf is from a garage sale, and I think it was fifty cents. I then have a black cardigan-like top which went over a Walmart camisole with a built-in bra.  The Wallie's piece was on sale for three dollars, so I grabbed three.  The leggings are Old Navy -- a brand I don't usually go for, but since they were a dollar and a good wardrobe basic, I bought them.  The flats are LL Bean, also a dollar.  I am wearing them with black trouser socks. My guess is they were donated because they are surprisingly uncomfortable for walking.  But for dining and seated conversation, they are fine!  I wore this to have dinner at my bestie's house this evening.

I went to an estate sale today which was mostly an over-glorified garage sale.  Even though the person advertised it as an estate sale, you could tell it was just a private person selling his stuff. All I had was $18 cash and what I grabbed came to $17.50.  I picked three tables for the patio, a flowerpot, and three kitchen utensils.  The small round tables were five bucks each -- so I think I did well.

The second sale I hit was put on by a legit estate sale company. I spent $20 (before tax).  Here's what I got:

- One blender
- Three metal (at least two silver plate) bowls
- Eight cloth napkins
- Eight ceramic flower plates made in France
- One straw hat
- One commemorative plate with a Pheasant

While I have a Vitamix, I'd wanted a blender too because I have seen people affixing the blade assembly to canning jars and I thought that would be convenient. The blade assembly on the Vitamix is not removeable. The blender I found was $8. It has never been used, and it came with an extra blade assembly.

I have wanted more cloth napkins that can be used when I entertain. These are nicely made, and I couldn't have made them for less than the four dollars they cost me. My goal was to buy with a card and that meant a $20 minimum.  The four bowls did the trick as everything else I found came to $16.  The plate is for my Frankie room because she hunts pheasants. And while I have been looking for green cabbage plates, I was still happy with the white floral ones.  They will look nice on my table -- dressed up or down, or even outside.

Estate and Garage Sale afternoons are just about my favorite thing to do.  I try to be sure that what I pick is useful for our house, but sometimes, it's just something I want for me (like the hat!).  As long as I can find a place to stash it all, who's gonna complain?

  1. I love the hat! And what a deal on the tables. Yard sales are one of our favorite things to do too. We went out yesterday and got some goodies too.

  2. I spent my weekend purging my closet contents and getting donation boxes ready...not done yet. Really pairing down my shoes, and I'm ashamed to admit there were three or four pair still in their boxes and never been worn. =0 My daughter took 2 pair, a granddaughter took 2 pair, and I'm waiting for another granddaughter to make it by to give them a look before I pack them up for donation.

  3. Garage sales aren't really a thing here, I assumed estate sales were the same thing but I'm obviously mistaken. You get charged tax on your finds? I had no idea!
I lie the ceramic planter and saucer, I'm always looking for those!
In the olden days we used to go car booting on weekend mornings now I go swimming...what's happening to me?! xx
