Women's Day!

This was my sign for the Woman's Day March downtown today.  It commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave American women the right to vote.

Mostly ladies in my age group got the meaning of the back of my sign!

I dressed in the colors that signify the Woman's Suffrage movement: violet, yellow, white, and green. Even my jewelry!  It was chilly, so I needed a jacket.

I took these pictures after the march ended. Attendance wasn't huge because it absolutely poured. But there was still a decent turnout for a small event.  My arrival was late to avoid getting soaked, and I had to walk about four blocks from where I parked. I joined the procession, then hung out for about 45 minutes afterward. Tommy is hiking at Allegheny State Park, otherwise he would've come with me. My friends complain plenty but don't actually do anything. So, I guess it's just me!

Instead of heading straight home, I hit Ollie's because I wanted a replacement for the area rug in the living room. It is cheap and the pattern is actually not woven into the backing. When we vacuum, the printed top gets sucked in.  Finding a suitable and affordable rug has been very hard -- I've been looking for a few months.  The rug I found is a little small for the area, but it's the only one I've seen that is the right color and of a good quality.  This one was only thirty dollars and should last a long time.  I saw rugs like it on-line for $300.  The downer was that in wrangling the thing into my cart and car, I must've lost my pretty yellow flower vintage bracelet. I am bummed. But I do like the rug!

Yesterday I bought a tie for Tommy at Marshall's. He needed one to go with this Madras jacket. He will probably wear it with a white cotton shirt and khakis. I really wanted a bow tie, but those are hard to find. This tie was only ten dollars, and I think he'll look like a preppy gentleman wearing it.  My dress is navy blue, and I will be wearing pearls.

I switched over to summer clothes today, and this is my current closet configuration. It was not easy! But I am resolving to dress well every day, and if I post it, then I'm more likely to keep it up.  The only thing I have left, is to bring some stuff up the attic.

Are you pulling out your warm weather attire? And if you are in the US, did you participate in any events this weekend?

  1. I bought a winter coat and a sweater while at a yard sale this weekend. Are you planning on marching on June 14th? My daughter definitely wants to participate. I like your rug and that tie is snappy!

    1. What a great find—a winter coat and a sweater at a yard sale? That’s the kind of treasure-hunting that makes weekends fun and budget-friendly! Yard sales are hit or miss, but when they’re a hit, it’s the best feeling.

    2. I really want to march in June. Unfortunately, I haven't found any events close by -- but I keep looking! That parade has me really pissed...

  2. Fantastic outfit and banner! Well done. Armchair complainers drive me buts, the only way to change anything is to get off your a*se and take to the streets.
Love Tommy's Madras jacket and the tie looks fab. xxx

    1. Thank you! I do love that jacket and am so happy he is going to wear it. He's chosen navy slacks -- which will go well and are the same color as my dress. So we will be coordinated. And we are not armchair people!

  3. What a spirited and heartfelt account of your Women’s Day experience! Your dedication to honoring the legacy of the 19th Amendment—down to the historically symbolic colors in your outfit and jewelry—is so admirable. Even in the rain, you showed up, representing not only your beliefs but also the women who fought for the rights many now take for granted. It’s inspiring that you chose action over apathy, even when others stayed home.

Your afternoon detour for a new rug and the little victory of finding something good (despite the bittersweet loss of your vintage bracelet) is a relatable reminder of life’s small wins and trade-offs. And your closet switch—kudos to you for committing to dressing well daily! I think sharing it is a great way to stay motivated.

Thank you for sharing this slice of your life. It’s full of personality, purpose, and a wonderful mix of old-school elegance with modern spirit.

    1. Thank you Asep. I find regardless of where we live, most people intrinsically want the same things. Rights are important for everyone!

  4. I pulled out the lighter clothing when we managed to reach 35C and now that it has fallen to a high of maybe 7C I am having to layer up.
Good for you marching for Women's Day.

    God bless.
