Most of my day on Friday was spent getting Tommy's wardrobe ready for the wedding we attended on Saturday. Ironing the madras jacket took some time. The pattern is sewn, not printed. That meant a more uneven surface and some natural puckering that I had to press. Then I had to find a shirt. This one is Lands End, which I am pretty sure I purchased off of their website on clearance. It fits him in all ways, except the buttoned flap that goes under the tie. I probably could've gotten that secured, but he tied his tie first and I didn't notice it until we got to the event. At first, he wasn't sure about the tie and pocket square, but I was certain it was right. It all went well with my thrifted navy dress. The Keshi pearls are from jtv.com. My earrings are diamond and aquamarine, given to me by a friend who could no longer wear them.

A father and son duo were decked out in plaid, so I asked the boys to pose together. Once Tommy saw them, he didn't feel like the odd man out. In fact, he received a ton of compliments. Especially from the groom, pictured above. It was a great ceremony and reception. We had so much fun, and the food was delicious. Definitely worth the effort.

I've probably mentioned before that I was raised in a low-income home, in a very affluent town. The worst thing that could happen, was that you looked poor. It was always a struggle trying to appear "normal." The one thing that came out of that, was learning how to spot quality and how to wear it. We never thrifted -- my mom felt that buying second hand was beneath us. But obviously it was not. Finding the almost new loafers was worth the time I spend hunting. These were cleaned and conditioned for this event. While the shirt, tie, jacket, and pocket square were purchased new, I found them at deep markdown prices. I believe the slacks (navy blue) were thrifted by me. Obviously, my dress and shoes were second hand. Even though I am biased, I think my fella was the best dressed there!

I closed out the week by making two meals from the turkey meatballs I made using that Flashfood chub from earlier in the week. One dinner was soup with pierogi (also FF), lunch today was a pan friend wrap with homemade hummus. The little bit that was left was mixed in with Frankie's food, and the turkey fat was just made into oatmeal for her too.
I put in a double Flashfood order today and also went to Price Rite because we needed eggs. Free Range eggs were $4.47 for a dozen, which wasn't too bad. This is only a little more than the factory/mass cultivated variety. They taste so much better. I also added to my pasta stash and picked up one more bottle of white wine vinegar. With high tariffs threatening imports from the EU, it's a price that will rise. As for the lasagna, it was probably cheaper to buy than make. Not to mention convenient. As for the squeeze container of avocado, I am freezing it. It will be used to make appetizers for Tommy's retirement party.

I took a nasty spill tripping over a huge crack in a driveway while shopping a garage sale over a week ago. My knee had been quite sore. That knee has had a partial replacement, which happened almost ten years ago. At that time, I purchased a very expensive off-loading brace. It helped my knee, but once I took it off for any length of time, the pain returned. It turned out there was a fracture that hadn't healed. Thus, the surgery. Being the hoarder that I am, and because I could find nowhere to donate the brace, I kept the thing. I decided to try it out last week and have found it's helping a lot. This means I will probably wear a lot of brace-friendly clothes for the next couple of weeks. I was happy to wear this linen blend jacket over jeggings to run errands today. It's a thrifted piece too -- as is the polo underneath. My boat shoes are garage sale finds, which I wear a lot.
Dressing for a wedding is always an adventure for me, since we are no longer young. We won't be wearing current fashion, but don't want to look like old people either. How do you dress for weddings?
I’m glad the brace is helping your knee. I really like your
ReplyDeleteAdorable wedding duds, love the photo of the two of you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kath! I usually wear a black dress, but when he said he wanted to wear the madras, I had to find an alternative. Glad I did!
DeleteI'm sorry about your knee, thank goodness you still had that brace! You both looked fantastic at the wedding - as did the two chaps in tartan. Was there a reason for the dress code?
ReplyDeleteI must admit, weddings aren't my bag, hence the reason I'm unmarried! xxx
Glad I found the brace again too. I also have bursitis in my shoulder and could use some pain meds daily -- but don't want to. The brace gives me a way to feel better without meds. I wish I was a better liar and didn't have such a brave injury to describe. Tripping on a crack in the driveway. Boring! With the last injury, I don't even know for sure how it happened because I am banging my knees all of the time. I never had a brave story to go with that brace. Poo!!!
DeleteOh, and no dress code. Mostly regular suits and the guys, but a wide range of ensembles for the ladies. Many were in tight and slightly over-revealing club-appropriate dresses. There was supposedly someone planning to wear a kilt, but I didn't see that. Tommy and the guys in plaid stood out.
DeleteI agree - you both look great. Sounds like you had a good time too.
ReplyDeleteForgot to enter my none!
DeleteYou both looked very snazzy! I cannot remember the last wedding I went to. We attempted to attend one maybe 5 years ago and the bride made us wait around for about an hour, then sent out a family member to tell us she just wasn't feeling it today. Bye, we said.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We had not gone to a wedding in over ten years, but have gone to two this year! I did behave better at this one...
DeleteSo sorry about the knee. Glad that you kept that brace. You both looked awesome at the wedding. Not too sure what I wore to the last wedding, it probably took place 10 or 15 years ago. Now the great-nieces and nephews are getting married and those seem to be just for their immediate family now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The brace is really helping my knee. We went to a wedding earlier this year and it was a good friend's daughter. We sat with a great group and danced the night away. This wedding was my neighbor -- and I adore this couple. We only knew one other couple so it was rather sedate for us. But the food was awesome. Both were really big affairs too. I can see why many people can't afford weddings like these. It must've cost a small fortune...
