Friday, Saturday, and a Little Sadness

Friday was a pool day because I marched on Thursday. I wore a dress, but think it looked too old-ladyish.  This one might be too small.  And my legs are too white!

Tommy made a huge bowl of pasta salad to bring to dinner with his Beer Boys. I asked him to leave some for me, which I had for dinner with the third chicken thigh from last night.  It was delicious!

I noticed an Estate Sale sign yesterday but waited for today because the second day is generally half off. I also needed to get a new pair of sneakers.  They will be more expensive now that the tariffs have kicked in and I wasn't sure I'd find any second-hand.  I also stopped into Five Below.  The rechargeable USB lights will work great for little pockets of light on our patio, on the outside dining table, etc.  These are plastic so they won't break if blown over.  As for the sale, I am always looking for percolators and was happy to find two.  My goal is to spend five dollars per pot but couldn't argue over the extra dollar for the larger one.  I've also been on the hunt for good cotton sheets and tablecloths.  They are great for bedding and sewing.  Now that my fabric source is going to be gone, thrifting sheets and fabric will probably be my best bet.  I am hoping to find a shaving brush for the soap. It's old stuff but the real deal!

I paid full thrift price for a pair of flip-flops and a pair of shoes.  These were new and a very good buy!

There were two sheets worth buying.  The beige one will probably be used for a couch cover, while the yellow one will go on my bed.  Finding an apron for a dollar was a great bonus!

I found a long piece of poly-satin that looks to be a sari.  It's shown along the back of the couch to give an idea of how long the piece is.  This might work to cover the back of the couch, or I could use it with the curtains in the dining room. What do you think?  I have the white linen tablecloth and yellow sheet on my bed.  I might turn the tablecloth sideways to just cover the foot of the bed.  It is a really heavy linen with a damask pattern, which I love.  Lots of 100% cotton or linen layers are my favorite bed dressing. I love the feel of real cotton.

More pasta salad tonight for dinner! Along with that, I breaded and air-fried some shrimp.  They were crispy good.  Not shown, was homemade vanilla ice cream with pecans, chocolate & caramel sauce for dessert.

While I had a happy hunting day, I learned yesterday that the young lady who moved in two houses down and had been hospitalized because she was injured and also needed a liver transplant passed away. She was only 34.  I had spoken with her parents quite a bit and feel just awful for them.  Also, one of my most favorite cousins died.  We had planned to go to Greece once she had gone into remission with pancreatic cancer, but it came back before we could go.  It had been a tough year for her, but I was really hoping she would beat the odds.  The man who lives next door, died at 53 a little over a month ago.  A friend of mine has weeks to live because she has incurable lymphoma.

I am really going to need to be sure to make sure to find the bright side of life every day.  We are lucky when we are the ones who have time to do the things that make us happy.  Have you gone through a stretch where it seems so many people around you are suddenly gone? It sucks!

    1. Thank you Belinda. While a few of these losses weren't a total surprise, they weren't something I thought would happen so soon. But these things are never in our control, are they?

  2. Sad losses, all. And so sorry for their loved ones, you included. When my best friend died, and I was so depresed (my mother had died just a few months before), I had to take on a fake it till you make it attitude. They fought so hard, and would have given ANYTHING to be around for the things I was seeing and doing each day, so I honor them by being thankful for all the things for all of us. Not gonna lie...still tearing up writing this.

    1. How hard that must've been. I would be devastated to lose my best friend. So soon after your mother too. I bet you'll be feeling it for a long time.
