Chicken!
I wore a dress to the pool today. They are really the easiest to get in and out of. My guess is this previously belonged to a lady in a nursing home because the label has been cut out. That happens because the resident's name is often written on it. Guess that's how I am able to assume my "Suburban Grandma" persona. The sandals are also thrifted. I got them at a discount because one strap was missing, which was easy to remedy by sewing a strap that can be tied. My plan is to make multiple straps using fabric scraps.
This morning, I cut up chicken breasts into chunks, to marinate for our party on Saturday. They need up to three days to soak in the flavor. We have about 15 pounds of meat (some pork too), which should be enough for close to 40 people. On Saturday, I will soak wooden skewers, then load them up with meat. Saving the trays the meat came in means I have something to set the skewers in. The grizzle and fat cut off the chicken was set aside and microwaved. It's mixed in with Frankie's food now. She did get a few bits while I was snipping...
My marinade is a mix of sauces indigenous to both Binghamton (Spiedie) and Oneonta (Brooks), New York. Both cities are on Route 88 -- so I am calling this concoction "Route 88 Chicken (and pork)." We have guests attending who either lived or went to school in both cities! There was sauce leftover, so I mixed them in bottles and will have extra for basting. The way the meat is served, is by spreading butter on a piece of white bread, holding that piece in your hand, and grabbing the skewer with it. The skewer is pulled out and you eat the chicken in the bread from your hand. It is delicious!
The sour dough I started yesterday yielded these beautiful loaves today. I am really happy with how they look. My guess is that they will taste good too.
Flashfood had marked down fresh linguini today. Dinner was a bowl of it with clam sauce. We have a number of cans of clam sauce which I found for two dollars on a clearance endcap. The Caesar side salad was a bag on sale for $3.99. We had dinner for around seven and a half dollars. We'll be having linguini tomorrow night too.
We had some serious rain come through in the early morning hours. It's still hot -- but things have cooled down a little bit. How is the heat where you are?
