Getting it Out There

I have wanted to start hanging clothes outside to dry for a few weeks now. This was something that had not been possible the first three years of Frankie's troublemaking life. This is one of those retractable lines, which I found at Ollie's for ten dollars. It's attached to our fence on one end with screws and zip ties. The other end is anchored on the pergola. I did not want to screw or nail anything into the new siding on the garage. I have poles for a second line (which we need), but the rope had rotted over the past three years and also wasn't long enough to span over to the pergola. I went to Dollar Tree looking for a replacement.

Of course, I always find other things to buy. One reason is I hate to swipe for just $1.25. There are things we always need -- like zip ties. Especially in the summer. My favorite morning facial moisturizer is still only $1.25, so I grabbed two to replace what I've used in the past month. The foot cream (two moisturizers, one scrub) is for my pool bag. The napkins will be the background for a protest sign. I have a feeling there are many more to come.

I decided to stop at Save-a-Lot while I was out and was able to pick up meat for the week. They also sell my favorite protein bars. The generic version is much cheaper than Nature's Valley, so it's worth it to grab them when in stock. This means the meat portion of my spending this week will only be eight bucks.

Progress on the pergola area has been slow going. The table I thrifted hasn't worked as planned. It's not actually wood. It's molded particle board, and it doesn't want to hang on to the paint very well. For now, I am covering it using a thrifted shower curtain. It's folded in half. I needed a way to keep it anchored in the wind and decided to set up a silver plate tea service. My collection of teapots is fairly large, so I can spare these. And while I like the idea of a silver service, it hasn't gotten much use. There are rocks in the pot to keep it from blowing over, and glass beads in the creamer and sugar bowl.  Tomorrow I will work on the cushions and hanging decorations. Progress is slow, but I'll get there!

Dinner was a stir fry using the marked down pork, along with peppers, onions, and the FlashFood mushrooms from Friday. This was served over rice. Tomorrow, I will mix it into stock I made last week in order to have soup. Tommy is going to be in Cleveland overnight, so that will be my dinner.

Tell me the truth... do you think it's odd that I am setting up a tea service in my back yard?

  1. I like the tea service and don’t think it’s odd. And, it works perfectly as an anchor. I like the clothes line too. Growing up, we always hung our clothes outside on the line to dry. You found some great deals on meat at Save a Lot! Ours has 24 packs of water this week for 99 cents with a limit on one. You can’t beat the Dollar Tree prices. Their body wash sells for $1.25 for a 32 ounce bottle and works great and is so much cheaper than anywhere else. 💕

    1. While I don't usually buy bottled water, I will go to see if our store has that sale -- thanks! We are having a party at the end of the month, and it would be good to have bottled water.

  2. Drinking tea outdoors is perfectly normal to me! I remember an American friend coming to stay and her being incredulous at how we always line dry washing. Again, a normal pursuit for Brits! The good thing about having so many trees is that we can suspend a line between them. We use a line prop to maximise the breeze .
I'm using Aveeno body moisturiser, it's the first time I've used it, its lovely! xxx

    1. I love line drying! I do it as much as I can indoors, but our basement is too cool in the summer. Americans are obsessed with machine dryers and fabric softener dryer sheets. Yuck!

  3. Not odd at all. You are just planning your next outdoor tea party in the pergola. I love my clothes being dried on the lines outside. Today I managed to get two loads dried, would have gotten the last one out, but had to go and get this stupid heart monitor put on. It took them way too long past the time of my appointment to get it ready, and then not long at all to attach it to my body. I really don't like it at all.

    God bless.

    1. Hope all goes well with the monitor. Tommy had to wear one after his heart attack. It actually saved him from a bad prescription dosage. One of his meds made his heart rate dangerously low and the monitor proved it. So, they are a pain, but they show a lot! Good luck.
