Dressing Up or Down!
I played suburban housewife yesterday. The aquatic center has still been closed because the people who are working on the pool roof cut the wires/cables for the pool area. It was a casual day, and I was able to dress accordingly.
Tonight, I had more of an urban housewife vibe going. Even though this was a bit dressier, everything was the same price point and second hand. My jewelry was a little different. But it was still not much. I switched out one pair of earrings and pendant, which was done to match the red/burgundy accent in the shirt. I love matching fine and faux, gold, gold over, real stones, fake, and all sorts of high/low combinations. No one knows what is dear or not -- just the like I way it!
I made a dress up and dress down dessert too! A blogger I follow mentioned making home-made fruit gelatin, which inspired to make some in order to use up old and new juice, strawberries, and bananas. I boiled the tops of the berries to flavor some of water. When they were done, I added the bits into fruit for Frankie's oatmeal. As for our "dressed up dessert," it was a pint of vanilla ice cream with a fancier offering for dinner at a friend's house. I was given the remains of a quart of light cream as we departed, so that will be turned into more ice cream -- so my dessert was basically free.
It's not hard for me to make or put together nice things; it's just a matter of knowing where to look, how to put it all together, and getting invited somewhere to go. Isn't it swell that you can buy both fancier and casual pieces by shopping second hand? Do you spend extra for nice pieces, are you able to get what you need for a bargain regardless of wither you dress up or down?
I definitely shop the second hand market for clothing. I picked up several at yard sales and paid no more than $2 for each piece and usually $1 each. Glad you were able to make the fruit/gelatin cups. I’ll be making more today as we are out again.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why responses I make to you end up disappearing, so I apologize this is late! I am hoping garage sales start up here soon because the thrifts are raising prices. We'll see what I can find this summer!
DeleteI also do the same with my jewelry. Not so much my clothes though as I really do not go anywhere, most of my clothing is made by me though I did purchase I few items this year as I just don't feel up to making anything new right now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I need to be more creative about making some of what I wear. I am trying to dress well enough at home -- I leave the house to walk Frankie, so I do get seen!
