Fun, Fashion, and the Freezer
Frankie had a fun day! We walked by the river. The sun, warm weather, and beautiful sky made for a lovely outing.
People fish the river for food. This is an immigrant. We have no problem with that! In the past, the DEC held classes, so these folks understood the safe consumption quotas. For many people coming from other countries, fishing is for sustenance. This spot on the river is where the big power lines head to (and from) Canada. We are a very international locale and want it to stay that way.
Frankie ventured into the water, which is in the low 40's. She dragged me into the brush to show me a deer carcass too. For us, this is fun!
The only plans I had to get out of the house, was to go to the post office, Dollar Tree, and then the park. I spent a decent amount of time composing letters of sympathies for four of my cousins whose sister passed last week. Then I needed supplies at DT (more to follow). The black belt bag is great for dog walking, and I was happy to have it.
One of the things I grabbed at DT, were black chargers. While I absolutely hate using plastic/acrylic, and especially like to avoid buying new, I had not found any better options. The white floral plates from this weekend's estate sale sit under the green scroll plates from Goodwill. I don't have a meal planned -- just wanted to decorate my table!
While I was in DT, I found night eye cream, which I have wanted to add to my cache of potions. I also wanted more hair bands for the summer. Everything was $1.25. I took screen shots of what you'd normally pay for these pieces. I couldn't find an exact match for the cream, but I have a decent example for a half ounce tube. Add at least 30% onto the current $1.25 to estimate how much these things would cost in a few months. Still way cheaper than regular retail (Walmart), but not what I want to pay. That's why I grabbed them.
Dinner and dessert came from freezer stock. The chicken thighs were marinated in buttermilk and mustard, then air fried with mustard and honey along with cheese and potato pierogi (Flashfood). Frozen peas were the veggie side. I churned ice cream I'd made with half and half. This was sweetened with sweetened condensed milk and the dregs from a jar of apricot jam. French vanilla is my favorite base, but I didn't want to mess with egg yolks and a double boiler. Instead, I used powdered egg yolks, and they worked great. You couldn't tell they were powdered. Of course, I topped my ice cream with my favorite condiment -- rainbow sprinkles!
I hope your day was warm, sunny, and sweet too!
What a lovely walk - minus the carcass - well done, Frankie!!
ReplyDeleteYour table setting looks very smart. Jon likes a bum bag for festival trading but tends to wear his over his head and under the armpit. xxx
I love the term "bum bag" and am going to use it! I want to start wearing bags t the way Jon does. This one slides on to a belt, so I pretty much have to wear it around my waist. But maybe I can get creative...
DeleteI don't really think finding a deer carcass would be something I enjoy. However as a youngster I did dig up a dead pet turtle and asked my Mother why it hadn't gone to heaven.....
ReplyDeleteThe table setting looks great.
God bless.
The carcass thing was admittedly kinda disgusting. But the rest was nice! I am glad you like the table, I really wanted to get it set so I wouldn't leave junk on it.
