A Few Days Away?
Frankie and I took a day trip yesterday, but it required a few extra days to make it happen. Not only did I need to prep for the trip, but I also needed to account for the day at home I would miss.
Frankie had cousin time. Her uncle JW knocked up a lady named Tootsie, and the little ones are hers. There was a chubby little boy who captured my heart. I picked him up and he just put his paws on my neck and snuggled in. Her promiscuous uncle also impregnated a girl named Emma. The handsome young man on the left, who looks quite a lot like Frankie, is actually her cousin Parker. He is just lovely -- in looks and temperament. Frankie had tons of fun playing with him and he loved her too.
Here's the result of my car interior clean-up effort. Frankie ate a bunch of grass at Aunt Robbin's and puked in the backseat on the way home. So the covers got washed again!
I have been both FlashFooding and grocery shopping. My big score at Save-a-Lot was that $6.05 fryer -- 99 cents per pound. I roasted the chicken for the first meal, Tommy made a chicken and veggie pasta last night, and this evening, I made sandwiches. Tomorrow I will be making stock and chili.
This week's loaf of bread is sourdough. The starter was fed with whole wheat flour, and I did use a little yeast. It was plenty sour, rose just fine, and was a little bit higher in fiber. Here are the meals I made: Roasted bird with a healthy side of salad, watermelon, and a baked potato. Tonight, I made chicken, lettuce, tomato, hummus, and feta cheese sandwiches. A few days ago, I grabbed an FF convenience package of butternut squash and also had FF broccoli slaw left over. Tonight's soup as the side was made with both. I served the soup cold. That's gelatin on the side, made with a Botthouse Farms smoothie also from FlashFood.
I do splurge on sweet pleasures. We are almost out of Limoncello. Although I want to make my own, I haven't had the time to try. The amaretto will be used to flavor ice cream. Methinks my fresh churned desserts should be served in a cone. Also, my goal is to go easy on the wine by making spritzers to enjoy on the patio. Hopefully the bottle of Pinot Grigio will last a few weeks. We have a Soda Stream for making seltzer. As for the pie, we both love lemon meringue, and this was $3.12 -- cheaper than if I made it myself. And I haven't yet tried to make one anyway.
My ensembles have been rather utilitarian lately. These are what I've worn to the pool and then for running errands. Because of the errand part, I need sensible shoes. Of course, I look more like a grandmother than a suburban housewife. But at least I don't look like a total slob!
I do wish my blog readers were closer by. I would have eggs to share with you!
Oh my, I would love to share in the eggs if we lived closer. The rooster is beautiful as is the peacock too. Sounds like you and Frankie had a good visit and brought home some goodies too. Your sourdough looks fantastic too. I’ve not tried limoncello, but you’ve intrigued me, so I might just try that out. I went to an early morning yard sale today and scored again, I’ll share on my blog soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you found! These eggs are good. They are small, but the yolks are so intense. I don't have many egg eating friends, so I might be doing some baking too!

ReplyDeleteWow, you did awesome. I must say that I look very much the granny when I head out the door to go shopping or to even hike around the city. Lemon Meringue Pie and Rhubarb are my favourite pies.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I was laughing at the whole "Coastal Grandma" style. In the Northeast, coastal style is more faded reds and blues anyway. I don't think, however, that I reach that level of style. So "Errand-Running Grandma" it is!
DeleteSorry, I wsa trying to comment on my phone - my fingers are just too big!
DeleteFrankie is living her best life! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip away. I'd love a peacock but I think their mewing would slowly drive me mad.
One of our Greek friends berate us for not making our own limoncello but huge, unwaxed lemons aren't cheap here - unlike in Greece where they just grow by the roadside! xxx
