The Party's Over

Our party (and the weekend in general) was a big success. I don't have lots of pictures because I used my phone as part of the sound system. We had 36 people, and were it not for my wonderful sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and the best best friend, we couldn't have pulled it off so well. Family helped with many tasks, and my bestie mixed her signature drink, the Hugo, time and time again. Our guests were friends, neighbors, and former co-workers. Only four people cancelled. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. Tommy was so happy, which was my goal.

This was all that was left of the meat I prepped for the event.  At first, I thought I'd over-bought, but it seems I hit it just right. 16 pounds of meat. In addition to what's shown here, I set aside four skewers for Sunday dinner -- my bestie and her husband came over for dinner and to eat some leftovers.  It looks like we won't need to buy beverages for at least a month, and Tommy was given three bottles of bourbon.  I love liquid leftovers...

The glassware is cleaned and packed up for another party. It was so nice not to be drinking out of plastic cups. We used paper plates and napkins, as well as wooden forks. All was compostable but with the volume, it was destined for the trash can. Many of the foil pans were washed and can be re-used. These are things I will offer up to anyone I know having a party of their own. Thrifting glassware was a great idea, as was wrapping it in brown packing paper and cut up bags. Everything about this is recyclable.

I did make a quick thrift trip today. It's what I like to do on Mondays. While Amvets has a senior discount on Monday, it's only for clothing. One thing I've wanted for ages is a black and white checked cotton bedspread. It's been a quest for well over a year. Today, this one showed up. It wasn't eligible for any discounts and was marked $12.98. However, it was exactly what I wanted. It's 100% cotton and handmade in India. Sometimes it's worth it to just suck it up and pay the asking price. And it is Frankie approved!

  1. I’m so glad your party was a success! I love how you packed up the glass wear afterwards. And what an unusual bedspread. I’ve not seen one like that before, but it’s really nice.
