Low Key Valentine's Day

I felt like wearing a pop of color today, but I still ended up wearing a jacket over it.  It's still so cold! There is so much ice on the ground that Frankie and I managed to walk down one house, and I'd nearly taken a spill three times -- so we went right back home!

As a nod to preppy fashion, I opted to wear pearls with my bright lime green 99 cent Lily Pulitzer polo, which I wore under a green cable knit sweater. My preference would have been to wear white jeans, but I knew I'd be wearing the heavy black boots, and that dictated the color on my bottom half.

My first stop was the Dash Mart.  That place was so busy -- drivers were picking up flowers right and left! Ramen is a nice emergency meal, and these were $2.25 for a pack of six. I actually use the noodles without the packet as a starch for stir-fry and soups.  It's likely that I'll use the tofu with a noodle dish.  The dog treats were a great price at $4.99, Chewy has them for eleven bucks. We are going to see a friend this weekend that we've not hung out with for a couple of years. She's Canadian, so there was a long time we weren't even allowed across the border. She has a lovely chocolate lab of advanced years, and I haven't wanted to ask if she's still around. Her health had been precarious. If she is still part of their family, I have the treats in mind for her.

The Amvets thrift store is less than a mile from the Dash Mart, so I stopped in.  I found some good deals.  The shoes were full thrift price.  The Clarks were seven dollars and hardly worn.  The Sotta Sopra sandals were five bucks.  One is missing the strap, but I can tie them on with ribbons or make ties from my fabric stash. These are made in Italy, leather, and never worn.  My guess is they are vintage, or at least a couple of decades old.  I am planning a trip to Greece in the fall and thought both of these would be great to bring along.  The jacket was new with tags and a half price steal for $3.50.  It's a 3x and I got it for my young lady. Let's hope she likes it.  Since it's unique, I think she probably will.

In spite of all the snow, our lavender has been growing! Infused vinegar is one of my cleaning staples, so I cut some of the growth to make some more.  While I was at it, I stuck a bottle of booze in the snow to chill.  Champagne/White Sparkling wine -- and the perfect temperature!

My three pints of French vanilla ice cream is divine! I wish we could have some for dessert. Dinner was a couple of trays of supermarket sushi, which is surprisingly good.  But the ice cream is for tomorrow. I am going to have to make it again for us.

Did you do anything special for Valentine's Day?

  1. The snow as a wine cooler is inspired!
Good scores, I bet your friend will be thrilled with that cool looking jacket and those shoes/sandals will be perfect from Greece. You can't go wrong with good old Clarks, every British schoolkid grew up wearing them.
That lime green looks fantastic on you. xxx

  2. Nothing special done here, though I did get my usual red roses for the day. Harvey was a bit disappointed that there was no Babies Breath to be had. Love the idea of using the snow as a wine cooler.

    God bless.

  3. Dinner at home for our Valentines Day. I looked for baseball themed Valentine memes, and texted two to C. He bought me two small boxes of chocolates...one from him, and one from Rudy (Jack Russell). :)

    1. Smart play on the candies! Frankie and I got Tommy a carry-on suitcase because he wants to travel more, and if we go together, he can't use mine. My guy is real baseball fan too.

  4. Nothing special for Valentine’s Day here. It turned chillier here too, so I bundled up as well. I love to go to thrift stores and haven’t been in a while, hopefully soon.

    1. I could go to a thrift store every day and not get bored. But I only shop with whatever cash I have on hand, so it's once or maybe twice a week. Can we agree that there's been enough cold weather for one winter?
