Tuesday Stuff
We have one tiny bathroom in our small house. While I love finding old pieces, it really is difficult to find room for them. There is only so much space on the single sink. Here, all I can fit is a soap dispenser, dental floss (in a glass jar that originally held jasmine tea), an electric ultrasonic toothbrush, and a small glass tray holding a regular toothbrush, toothpaste, and lip balm. When we have guests, I put most of it away, so all that there's only the soap dispenser. One thing that isn't in this shot, is a microfiber sponge that is used to wipe up whenever the sink is used.
I really didn't need to use this glass dish for these supplies, but it keeps the sink area neater. The bathroom gets cleaned every three days, so I can easily pick this stuff up to wipe the surface and give the individual items a quick wash. Having the two of us using such a small space can easily create a mess if it's not kept up.
All of our shower products are decanted into unlabeled containers. Mine are on the lower shelf. I decided to do this because with so little room, all the labels can make it look disorganized. The three items on Tommy's shelf (shave cream, beard wash, moisturizer) are in their original packaging because I was emptying out the tariff closet. Otherwise, they would be in a generic dispenser.
This Villroy & Boch vase was a two-dollar garage sale find. It was one of a bunch of pitchers and vases I have already posted (the flowers in our kitchen are in one, the funky sunflower vase in the bee room is another). This pitcher holds flowers or bunches of herbs. In the winter, it's mostly empty, but I leave it there because it's pretty.
This picture gives a good idea of how cramped the space is. There's only about two feet of space between the toilet and the sink. When we had our house rewired and the electric service updated, I insisted on getting an outlet in back of the toilet. That meant I could get a bidet. It heats the seat and the water. It has a light when you use it at night. It has a deodorizing and disinfecting function. And it's the reason we very rarely buy toilet paper.
I'm sharing my bathroom because it was a low functioning day for me! The Sporting Group was being judged at the Westminster Kennel Club show this afternoon, so I was parked on the couch for four hours. I used the time to trim the fur on Frankie's feet. This is something I do when I'm watching TV. It helps me keep up with them, and I had planned to vacuum the couch anyway. If you trim your dog or cat and don't have a pair of curved scissors -- get a pair! They work great.
I also got our regular utility shaming notice in the mail. Can't figure out why they bother. It's the same thing each month, so obviously we can't change anything. None of the homes on our street are very large, so it's hard to fathom our usage being outrageous. There are some two-family units and those probably have lower bills. Also, we have an electric dryer and stove. We also have a dishwasher. But other than that, nothing we could make more efficient. In fact, all of our appliances are new and energy efficient. Our house is also fully insulated. I can't see how you can not use power when you stay at home, cook your own meals, and keep your home clean. In other words, we get a laugh out of the waste of paper and postage.
Does your electric/utility provider send out notices like this?
What a waste of paper from your electric company. Our electric co delivers ours electronically and I can go on there every day to check our usuage. Our biggest energy user is the dryer. It always goes up on laundry day.
