This is Thursday!

Tommy took the afternoon off so we could go to a show opening at the AKG Gallery.  We are members, so special preview shows and receptions are free.  We could have waited until he got home from work if he went in for the entire day, but by then it would be crowded.  Aside from the great art, there were complimentary wines and beers that were very good.  It was worth the trip out in the snow and 19f weather.  The parking lot at the gallery was full, so we had to walk over from the college across the street, which wasn't too bad.  Here's some of the art (the name of the exhibit is Hi Vis):

Many of the artists on exhibit also have works on display out and about in the city here.  This is why the show is called "Hi Vis" -- the works represent large murals, sculptures, etc. that were commissioned to be enjoyed in our urban environment.

We have a world-class art gallery.  It was founded by a very wealthy man in the early 1900's named Seymor Knox. Many wealthy patrons have helped it acquire a substantial collection.  Then around ten years ago, a guy named Jeffery Gundlach decided to make a huge contribution to update, expand, and modernize the gallery.  This guy is a self-made billionaire.  In the current political environment, with billionaires cutting public programs, seeing the arts as unnecessary and frivolous, we have this display of creativity and generosity.  Every time I visit, I get a new creative inspiration that makes into my home, garden, and various craft projects.  A billionaire is helping me do this.  This is why Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and their cronies make me so angry.  You can keep your fortune and still be beneficent.

And even the bathrooms are gorgeous:

This public institution has both a men's and women's room with stalls and sinks.  There is also a single All-Gender bathroom.  The manufactured crisis over bathroom usage is ridiculous and this solution is all that is required if transgendered individuals are banned from gender-assigned spaces.

Here is what I wore:

This Talbot's sweater was one of my 99 cent finds!  I wore predominately gold jewelry, focusing on pearls.

And on the way home, I picked up two Flash Food orders because the stores were on the way and they had deals!

The deal of the day were the sauce bases, which are basically flavored tomato paste.  Regularly $5.99, they were being sold individually for $2.49. Then I noticed a $5 produce box that had four.  So I ordered it.  As a bonus, there are about a dozen plantains, and a tray of chestnuts.  We snacked on the sea salt crisps while waiting for dinner to warm up. I made a small tray of veggie lasagna with the rest of the Flash Food mozzarella I used earlier in the week for chicken parm.

My day was cheap and cultural, plus I have danish waiting for breakfast tomorrow! And best of all, Tommy's taking Friday off, so he will be up early and starting coffee in the percolator.

Where do you find your culture and bargains?

  1. Sounds like a wonderful day at the gallery. How wonderful that the gentleman made that contribution. Others billionaires could do likewise if they choose. Great Flash Food finds!

    1. Your perspectives and composition are so original and wonderful! Please do take more still shots. I used to get bogged down recording my dog in the show ring, so much that I got out of the habit of setting up meaningful compositions. Keep producing beautiful stuff to look at!

    1. Thank you! Usually free beer and wine is cheap and icky. Or really small pours. Not last night -- good drinks, good servings. Hence the pictures of the ladies room...
