I make my bed first thing every morning. It didn't take long for this to happen!
The lovely delicate necklace and matching earrings I chose to wear today were a gift. My friend could no longer wear them, and she knew I would love the set. It had belonged to her mother. She gave me many beautiful pieces. Last week I gave her an old map showing the grounds for the Pan American Exposition of 1901. It was an old thing I bought easily 15 years ago but had no wall space for in this house. She took it to be framed and was advised it was a rare piece, worth $100. She asked if I wanted it back because it was valuable. Um, no! My friends are special, and I was thrilled I could give her something of value too.
I wore this blazer in lieu of a coat today. It was cold out and maybe that wouldn't be the best or most sensible choice, but I wanted to go light! I wore an ivory Columbia vest under it for warmth, which was one of my 99 cent finds. Of course, I had to wear seriously functional boots.
I wanted to try on one of my 99 cent finds from this week. It's a velour Lauren Conrad moto-style jacket. It's not a brand I really look for, but gray is having a moment -- and it was only a buck! I think it was a good find.
I am trying out different dairy bases for ice cream. This will be pineapple banana. For dairy, it's cottage cheese and sour cream. It was blended smooth in the Vitamix. I added a little vanilla syrup too. The bananas were 39 cents per pound because they were in the marked down bin. I used two, Frankie and I will share the others. They really aren't over-ripe either! Regularly, they are 54 cents per pound. Bananas have gotten expensive, and I bet they will suffer from tariff increases too.
I thawed three bags of meats. Once I mixed it together, I ended up with almost a week's worth of food. Frankie gladly licked the bowl clean.
Dinner was quiche, made over from a leftover container of ground turkey, potatoes, and veggies from a few days ago. I added three eggs, shredded cheese, and some half and half. There were a few frozen pie shells, which gave me a great way to avoid food waste. The salad is simply romaine and navel oranges. Tommy has enough for lunch tomorrow.
I fed the sourdough starter (that stuff is so needy), then started a batch of bean and alternative flour bread. I hope this rises. In order to make up for the lack of gluten (which is what makes bread rise), I started with some yeast and added some vital wheat gluten. Fingers crossed that it will actually rise.
The Tariff closet got a little neater today, but I spent extra time getting more containers and also checking out a new thrift store. I wasn't very impressed and think I will stick with my old standbys. Do you have any luck when you try someplace new?
