Super Shopping Day

There are a lot of ways for me to save money. It needs to be said that I do not budget.  My purchases are based on getting deals.  When I have an opportunity to save, I jump on it.  One tool I use, is the FlashFood app.  Two local businesses participate; by selling marked down food so they can move it, and I can save money.  You pay through the app, go to the store, and they load your food into a bag, and you are done. I downloaded the app from the Google Play Store and was thrilled to find stores in my area that are in the program.  Not all areas have outlets to take advantage of the deals.  If you are interested in the program, the code above will give you a discount on your first purchase -- and I'll get a bonus too!

The Dash Mart is where local Door Dash Delivery people go to pick up their orders.  I was amazed to see dog food on a deal.  This is good stuff and it's a good price.  I like to have some cans on hand incase Frankie's food isn't fully thawed.  This formula is duck, and it's got lots of real duck in it!

This was my first actual supermarket stop.  One bag of the ravioli is in the refrigerator for a dinner this week. We will probably have hotdogs tomorrow night because we have a meeting with our financial planner at the end of the day.  I'll have four packages of ravioli for a dinner -- once a week for the next four week!  The chorizo will be part of a charcutier board, no doubt.  And the hotdogs will be on hand when we have little guests for dinner.

The Christmas cookies were marked down 75% but were just half off for the longest time. They have a sell-by date in May -- and will be long gone by then! The convenience of these steamable packages made them worth the price.  They were half off.  The cauliflower is in the freezer.

While I was out picking up my FlashFood order, I did some traditional shopping too.  The newest tariffs will raise the price of merchandise at Dollar Tree, so I have been stocking up.  I also have a project and needed some plastic containers I knew would be cheap there.  My trip into Burlington was so I could look for a Valentine's Day present and use the lady's room.  The trip to Aldi was to get half & half, plus some eggs.  Eggs are going to go up in price, so I wanted to get them while they were still a decent price.  I also picked up some seafood and a bouquet of flowers.  Ad of course, we always need cheese.  I had to pick up a few boxes of sugar cubes at Tops, which Aldi does not sell.  The eggs and half & half are at least three dollars more than Aldi.  I basically only shop at Tops for FlashFood deals.

The descaling product I buy is really useful. It gets a lot of coffee gunk off the bottom of the stem in my percolator.  I use those craft sticks that are like popsicle sticks or tongue depressors to server and stir raw honey (metal ruins the raw effectiveness). They've got a few good pet toys lately, so I grabbed one.  The foot file is for Frankie. Running it over her brushed coat will finish it nicely.  If you have a dog with super short hair, this is one way to pull off dead skin and tiny bits of fur.

All these bags will be ground into flour!

Just what I needed! And I will need more containers...

It's nice to splurge along with the stuff we actually need!

Tommy doesn't read this blog, so I can show the carry-on bag he's getting for VD.  He's been using mine and needs one of his own.  This was $37, and if I could find one used/thrifted, I would. But I only ever get good stuff like this new (of course at a discount!).  The other stuff was just a good price for things we need for Frankie. The Merrell shoes were a real find because my guy has Fred Flintstone feet. It's rare to find thrift shoes for him. And he hikes.  Getting a pair of Merrell's in his size (11.5 W) for $40 is a steal.  I did text him a picture and called him at work to be sure he wanted them.  They fit perfectly.

I thrifted for my young lady!

I thrifted for myself too!

I spent $10.48. Blue tags were 99 cents.  Pink tags were 50% off.  I spent three bucks on two saucers, a vase, and a tissue box cover. The thrift gods are just putting those in my path! The original tag prices for the clothes were $54.  For the hardgoods, $11.  Quite a successful thrifting -- and shopping -- day, if I do say so myself.

This was our thrifty dinner. FlashFood green beans, butternut squash, and a $1.99 per pound pork tenderloin.  I think it was a $7 meal, with at least two more meals/lunches.

I spend money. We are lucky to be able to afford the deals I find.  You need to have money to save money. So, I consider myself very fortunate.  I like to share my finds as a way to show what kind of deals are out there. But I also try not to lose sight of the advantages I have.  Hopefully, you can manage deals like these too.

Oh! And this is what I wore:

  1. My goodness you did very well. Wish we had that flash food here. I may have to do a bit of research.

    God bless.

    1. Thank you! We do have a regional supermarket chain based in the area, so unlike many, I have probably five or six stores to find deals at within a ten-mile radius. And I am always on the lookout!

  2. We have only two grocery options in town, one of which is WalMart which I do not care for grocery-wise. It's a good thing I'm a person who doesn't like a lot of shopping. We did recently have a Goodwill open in town. I'm currently on the search for bargain 100% linen for a quilt top, so I pop into Goodwill to look 100% linen fabrics in clothing.

    1. We are well-located for this, but I understand your limitations because we used to have a vacation spot in a more rural area and finding deals was harder. I always look for linen and 100% cotton for projects. It's too expensive to buy new. And I thrift linen clothing whenever possible. I love it!

  3. I think we have something similar here called Too Good To Go, where supermarkets package up short dated food and you can reserve it and pick it up at a greatly reduced price. By all accounts it's generally pastry products like quiches, pies & sausage rolls, sandwiches and prepacked salads - so not something we'd use but far better than it being wasted.
Cracking finds again. If Tommy's shoe size is a US 11.5 that equates to a UK 9.5 - that's quite small for the average UK male!
You're on trend, as the fashion mags say, with your camo combats! xxx

    1. Wow! Your men must have big feet! The average here is around 10. We are getting into the large range at 11.5, but the big issue is he wears a eeee -- super wide! He's built really big, which is always a challenge. Manufacturers expect that if you're big, you must be fat. Which he is not. But I do well finding him shirts!

  4. I check the Flash Food app regularly, but so far they are only here at one little convenience store, which is 28 miles away, so it has to be a super good deal for me to go there. Hopefully one day they will be in more stores here. You were able to get some great stuff. This little store also had that same dog food on mark down. The Merrell shoes are good looking and what a bargain!

    1. Weren't you surprised to see dog food? In our case, there's a regional supermarket chain that is based here. So I could probably find 20 stores in a 28-mile radius! I have also found stores in Ohio when I was there for a dog show. But then I drive and hour and a half to stay in Rochester, NY and there are no participating stores for miles. I guess I just lucked out. We do have a lot of places where I can find a bargain.

We have a few different pet supply stores around here, so I will go looking for marked down food there too.
