Saturday Surprise

It was winter white today.  This gave me an opportunity to use my thrifted leather backpack -- a $7 splurge from last week. It cleaned up well.  One piece of hardware is worn, but unless you know to look for the spot, you wouldn't be able to tell.  Getting the outfit together took some digging.  The boots are on my overflow rack in the attack. The jeans were hung with my slacks, but I kept missing them.  As a result, I did a deep dig in the office closet and unearthed a jacket I thought I'd donated by mistake.  That imagined goof made me sick at heart. It was wonderful to find out my overstocked wardrobe was to blame.

This was last year's Christmas present.  It's a heated jacket. The thing is, I wanted a jacket but the vendor (my husband got it through work), bought a vest.  Tommy reached out to swap, and the vendor told him to keep the vest, and got him the jacket.  We took a long weekend a few weeks back and were going to explore a state park in Montour Falls, NY.  The weather was frigid -- dangerously so.  I went looking for the jacket and couldn't find it. Since I'd done a major purge during the year, I surmised I donated it by mistake.  What joy there was in finding it!

What I really love about this piece, is it is a woman's model. So is the vest.  That a huge tool manufacturer recognizes the need for women technical folks means we've made progress.  I used to work construction, installing computer rooms. I got sick of men telling me I looked cute in my tool belt and work boots.  It was very much a "Me Too," period of my life.  We live in a cold climate. I want to be out in the winter. Having a heated vest has been great -- and now my jacket will make it wonderful.

I am thinking my honey is going to get me a Milwaukee insulated tumbler for Valentine's Day.  I don't need a girly/trendy Stanly.  This lady is authentic.

I picked up some fabric for my dining room. It was in the 70% off clearance section and it is robust! Best of all, it has purple in it.  My friend who works at the fabric counter asked me if I really wanted something that wild.  Then shook her head and said "of course you do."  She hasn't been in the house since we painted and hasn't seen the purple dining room.  This means it's been too long since she and her husband have been over for dinner.  I'll have a tablecloth made and then invite them over.

Not a lot got done today, but I had a happy day!  Have you thought you gave something away, but then later discovered it was just buried in a closet?

  1. I love your all white winter look, tres chic! I'd have bought those curtains and made them into a skirt!
From another woman who spent years working in a male-dominated industry I feel your pain. I hated all that banter, its not flattering . xxx

    1. Thanks Vix! That is actually three yards of new fabric. I need to buy a skirt that is too large for me on 99 cent special, so I can cut it apart to make a template/pattern. That would make an outrageous skirt!
