My Monday

I set our island back up again.  This is quite a different arrangement.  As of this posting, I've already used the red pepper.  But more veggies will take its place.

It was nice to go out without a coat or jacket today.  I wore my 99-cent thrifted Banana Republic sweater -- over a Lands End jersey, and a pair of thrifted pull-on slacks.  All 99 cents a piece.  The shoes are from a garage sale for two bucks.  I wore sapphire earrings which were a gift from Tommy ages ago when he worked for a company named "Service Merchandise" -- a catalogue retailer. He got a 50% discount on all jewelry, so I was gifted well back then.  The pearls are gold over silver, and I wear them a lot in my second piercings.  So often, that I don't even bother putting them away.  The necklace was given to me by a friend who could no longer wear it.  Her neck was too big for the gold chain.  The stone is Diamonique (QVC cubic zirconia).  I think of this as a "suburban casual housewife" look.

We walked at the river today, at Niawanda Park, which is in the City of Tonawanda.  There are ice flows in the river which come from Lake Erie. There is a long chain of logs installed at the mouth of the river before Winter starts.  It keeps chunks of ice from floating down the river and jamming the water turbines which generate our power. This winter, there were such strong winds, and so much ice, that some ice made it over, and some of the boom was damaged.  It's usually taken out all at once, but this year they are taking out a few sections at a time to deal with the damage.  Normally the river would be clogged with huge chunks, and it would be a lot colder because of it.  In fact, I was even a little warm today!  Frankie had a nice walk, and we stopped into the location where Tommy used to work so she could visit the guys.  She goes absolutely crazy in the car when she realizes we're driving there. Both seeing the guys as well as a few geese, made her day.

I cut out the template and also cut the fabric for my sofa pillows yesterday and sewed the first one today.  Once I set it in the chair, my little lady jumped right up to join it.   I am happy with how it turned out and now have three more to make.  The colors in the fabric play nicely off the dining room wall, and especially the colorful print in the background.  We'll have a few dinner guests on Easter, so I hope to get them all done this week.

I now have one more chicken boob to cook.  My plan is to use the carcass to make stock tomorrow.  We will probably have some sort of soup for dinner.

Tommy wants to roast a pork loin on Easter, so I am going to see if I can find a deal on one.  What are you making for Easter dinner?

  1. I noticed the faux piping in the first photo, and was so happy you posted a close up. Great idea!

    1. Thank you! It started out as a response to a mistake, but once I thought about how to fix it, the better I liked the solution over the original plan. I have one tweak to make but it was a happy mistake!

  3. Nothing special planned for Easter dinner here. I love the pillow you made. The colors are beautiful and I like how you made some of the beige show on the front.

    1. I hope to keep Easter low key, even with a couple of guests. Now I have three more pillow covers to make!

  4. I meant to add, we love red peppers here. I have red, orange, and yellow cut up and ready to use in my fridge right now.

    1. If I had more room in my refrigerator, I would have cut the up and stored them in a jar of water. Neither Tommy or I are overly fond of green peppers, but really like the colored ones.

We don't observe Easter, it's just a normal sunday for us (except that all the shops are closed!) x

    2. Well thank you! I started out making a mistake doing a French seam, and I liked the results, so there will be three more like it.
