Sunday in Pictures

I really meant to have an easy day.  But there are things that need to be done every day.  Keeping up with it for my blog is easier to do through pictures, so that's what I am doing today!

I know far too many people who are picky about where they shop, and will only cook from specific recipes, expecting every attempt to taste the same.  I also have had friends who refused to eat leftovers.  Most of them changed their tunes once they had a mortgage.  I have also worked with many people who went out for lunch every day.  They ate out a lot too.  Many of the younger people I know use food delivery or meal services.  Not me!  Flexibility and effort is the best way to live frugally.

We ran out of sourdough bread today and it takes more than a day to make more.  However, you can make a regular basic loaf in four to five hours, which is what I did.  Once dinner was done, I got starter going and will make dough tomorrow.   I will have bread for toast in the morning and Tommy will have some to take to work.  There is no running out to the store for another loaf when I can make it myself.

It is so tempting to by baked goods using Flashfood, but it's healthier to make something at home.  This batch was made from half and half, along with sweetened condensed milk.  Using the condensed milk means I don't have to add sugar. The chocolate syrup I added was also sweet.  I don't view this kind of treat as empty calories because there's lots of nutrition in real dairy.  At least that's what I am telling myself...

I was overdue on dealing with our butcher block.  If you are going to have a huge slab of it, it becomes a real focal point.  When it's not taken care of, the rest of the kitchen won't look as good.  I am noticing a spelling error in one of my photos, but it's too late to go back and change it. My bad! But I was a good girl in polishing (that's a pun?) this chore off once Tommy and Frankie went off to bed.

Well, that was a full day! Did you rest today, or were you productive?

  1. Love the photo essay. I was very busy yesterday getting the house and yard mostly spiffed up for a visit by my cousin later today. More to do this morning.

    1. I am going to be captioning more often! It makes it easier to keep up with it all. We did a little bit of work outside yesterday too. I can't wait until we can start splitting the hostas and other perennials. I wish Spring would hurry up!

  2. You know, I have friends who don't eat leftovers. How in the world is that possible?!?!
